Celebrating Black History Month in Northern Ontario

February is Black History Month, and each year we honour and celebrate notable achievements, both past and present, within the African American community.

There are a number of events taking place where you can learn about important historical figures, current influential people and significant events related to Black history.

Sudbury

On February 23, 2019, The Afro-Heritage Association of Sudbury is holding a Black History Month celebration, “One Sudbury – One Community”. Tickets for students are only $25 and all the proceeds will go towards supporting related associations in the community.

Sault Ste. Marie

The African Caribbean Canadian Association of Northern Ontario is hosting the 2019 Annual Black History Month Celebration on Sunday, February, 24, 2019. You can expect to eat some amazing African and Caribbean food that also brings together some flavours of Sault Ste. Marie.

Tickers can be purchased here.

Thunder Bay

On March 2, 2019, there will be a Black History Month gala and dinner that will be celebrating African and Caribbean culture. The proceeds of the event will be donated to the CAMAT Scholarship Fund that provides financial support to newcomer, refugee and underprivileged students in the Thunder Bay area.
